"What's up, Leader!" If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him yet, allow us to introduce Pastor Sheridan McDaniel. Alongside First Lady Larleslie, Sheridan leads A Place for Worship in Fullerton and St. Mark Baptist Church in LB. Together, they are proud parents to four children: Jasmine, Joshua, Jordan, and Deondre. A Long Beach native of over 50 years, Sheridan brings an easygoing, coastal vibe to everything he does. He’s a devoted family man who finds joy in simple pleasures—traveling, quality time with loved ones, and the occasional deep sea fishing trip. And when it comes to fishing, he knows how to battle the big ones—a fitting metaphor for how he approaches life and ministry: with strength, strategy, and unwavering determination. Sheridan is a passionate leader and a compassionate soul. Though he can’t pick a favorite between Gladiator and Braveheart, both reflect his fighting spirit. At the same time, he carries a deep empathy for others and is especially energized these days by his work with Young Adults and Men's Ministry. Fun fact: Sheridan enjoys having dessert alongside dinner rather than waiting until afterward!
*Cue catchy theme song*

One of the more remarkable organizations in Long Beach is @newhopegriefsupport They serve hundreds of grieving people in and around LB every year. One of their main offerings is a grief camp for kids/families. This is an unusual year; they still have some spots for this year’s camp (which is on 4/12). From their post: “Expressing grief is a deeply personal process, and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. It can manifest through various outlets, including talking, crying, journaling, creative activities, or simply seeking support from others ❤️‍🩹 On Saturday, April 12, families will come together at Camp Fire Long Beach for New Hope Family Camp to explore their grief alongside others with similar experiences. Through breakout groups and activities led by our trained staff and facilitators, families will learn how to communicate, face their grief, and receive the support they need. 🦋 We offer a balanced mix of fun activities, including art, games, and community paired with age-appropriate grief education and exercises for each family member. You’ll find comfort, hope, and healing at New Hope while making new friends on a similar grief journey. Our goal is to support and strengthen each family member so the entire family can move forward together toward a new normal. There is still space available, so please join us! Fill out our online Family Camp Interest Form today with link in our bio, or visit https://www.newhopegrief.org/family-camp/”

We love working with partners, and one of our favorite partners is @citytocityla / if you have been thinking that church planting might be in your future or if you’re a senior leader and have a staff member who would make a good church planter, I am hosting a very informal dinner on Thursday, February 27. 6:30 PM at 908 in LBX. We have seats for 3-4 leaders. Message me or email me if you’d like to join us. I would love to introduce you to our friends at City To City.
Sheriff Luna wanted to say thank you for all of the ways churches in Long Beach have supported fire victims.
People from more than 25 churches have dropped off air mattresses, kitchenware, microwaves, blankets, towels, and toiletries, (and $1000s of dollars in gift cards). Thank you. 150+ boxes filled and delivered. Everything is donated to either @christch
